A Barony in the Kingdom of An Tir which is
a Part of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA, Inc)
Autocrat - Lord Kylar Michael. "Feastocrat" - Lady Alexis Morgaus. Notes: This was Dragon's Laire's first event; a served feast. The event was lightly attended (about 30 people) but was great fun. We learned one valuable item at this event: Require advance ticket sales! We bought for the number of people who said they were coming, not for how many actually did, so there was a lot of food left over.
Autocrat - Hrollaugr Njálsson. Notes: The attendance was light, perhaps 100 moderns, 4 merchants and a couple of dozen SCA folk. This was our first June Faire.
Autocrat: Lady Alexis Morgause. This was the Shire's first Ithra. Classes included Chivalry & Etiquette, Calligraphy, Armor Construction, Making Gambesons, Tents and Pavilions, Intro to the SCA and several other classes.
This first Skirmish was with Blatha an Oir.
Autocrat: Hrollaugr Njálsson. Notes: The war was fought over a banner which Dragon's Laire created but which Wastekeep claimed was due them. King Torgul Bahadur and his squire led the forces of Dragon's Laire. The opposing side was led by Baron Dyon de Mantel with the assistance of a Three Mountains ally, Sir Blackhand. After much fighting and many contests it was decided that their claim was just. This was also the occasion of the infamous kissing auction. A consortium of submarine sailors bought the services of King Torgul (who was King for the first time) then had mercy on him and gave him to the ladies of An Tir to discharge his duty. The following weekend during court at September crown, Torgul was presented with a case of cherry flavored chap stick to ease his duty.
Autocrat: Hrollaugr Njálsson. Notes: The Shire co-sponsored the South Sound Unity Tourney, along with Madrone, Blatha an Oir, Everclear (now Glymm Mere) and Aquaterra. The event was held in the covered outdoor sports court at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA. Dragon's Laire sponsored both the open list and the dog-meat tourney. The event was hosted by Glymm Mere. Duke Torgul won again. The dog meat tourney was won by Gerald Grimwald. The prize was a $100 certificate for armor. His Lordship Charles of Tanglewood was appointed to the Queen's Guard. Lord Baldwin of Dragon's Laire won the archery tourney.
Autocrat: Murakami Tsuruko. Notes: Attendance was light but a good time was had by all. We only had 4 or 5 fighters so the tourney was run round-robin style to make things last longer.
Autocrat: Sgt. Hrolaug Nilsen. Notes: We called it "Last Chance" because it was your last chance to get that last bit of practice in before September Crown Tourney the following weekend.
Autocrat: Hrollaugr Njálsson. The event was hosted by the same group as the previous year's South Sound Tourney.
Autocrat: Hrollaugr Njálsson.. This fair had 5 merchants, 6 fighters, a couple of dozen SCA and around 300 moderns.
Autocrats: Lady Alexis Morgause and Malcolm of the Northern Shore. The prize for this tourney was a back rub by the ladies of the shire. The prize was won by the ever stoic Duke Torgul.
Autocrat: Lady Alexis Morgause. Attendance was once more up in all areas.
Autocrat: Avery Thorson. The event had some trouble with dirt bikes driving through our campsites. We tried to find another site to hold the event the following year, but had no luck.
Autocrat: Lady Alexis. Because the event was held in July we did not hold our Faire this year. As was the tradition, the event was co-sponsored by the Barony of Madrone, the Barony of Blatha An Oir, the Shire of Everclear (now the Barony of Glymm Mere), the Shire of Aquaterra and the new Shire of Silverthorne.
Autocrat: Barnet Acelin. As in pervious years the event grew.
Autocrat: Jeheane Cattrill. The archery winners were: Open Class, Traditional Longbow and Novelty Shoot - His Lordship Wolfgar Ironwolf, and Crossbow - Richard of Sussex. It featured a heavy tourney with five fighters. Mara won the best bouncing bodice contest. Donahl MacWright won the best codpiece. Drakkus Blackroug and Brian Davies each won a boffer tourney. About 400 total people attended the event.
Autocrat: Ariana Godwyn. 200 SCA, 600 Modern. Clench-a-Wench was introduced to the shire by Eric de Dragonslaire. Ransom tourney and Champion tourney both won by Duke Thorin. Adult Boffer tourney won by Lord Eoghan O'Neal. Most Courteous Lord won by Master Steelewolf. Most Courteous Lady won by Shirley of Dragon's Laire. Best Looking Dessert won by Murikami Tsuruko, Sensei. Lord Juan Carlos won 50 yard, Master Bowman and Bowman archery contests. William of Sussex won 1st place crossbow. His Lordship Julian Edward Farnsworth of Aquaterra took Master Bowman in the Entertainment Combat Archery Competition. William Gwylym Gyffes won Archer. There was a potluck with entertainment.
Autocrat: Eric de Dragonslaire. The shire maintained a booth at the fairgrounds for more than 10 hours a day for five days. Established good relations with candidates for elected office. One hour performance of dancing and fighting on Sunday.
Autocrat: Hrollaugr Njálsson. A Dragon Calling Contest was performed and Eric won with his obnoxious horn. Round Robin tourney, multi-weapon, and fought until first blood. Weapon categories were mass weapon, sword, and great weapon. The tournament was won by Duke Torgul. One fighter came all the way from the Principality of Lochac just to fight him. There was an archery contest and a potluck feast. Approximately 78 people attended.
Autocrat: Lord Cedric Godwyn. Feastocrat: Ariana Godwyn. Eric de Dragonslaire won best story to warm you on a cold winter's night. He won a laptop desk, parchment and a pen. Sven Redbeard won the person who came in from the farthest away. He won a ten dollar gift certificate from House of Fabrics. Members of the shire performed "The Taming of the Shrew". There was a gift exchange. About 50 people attended the potluck feast.
Forward to the 1990s.
