We just wanted to thank those from Dragon’s Laire who braved the winter seas of Puget Sound to attend the Madrone Arts & Sciences Championship yesterday. Dame Madrun, Dame Gwenllyn Potter, Dame Ellen, Tsuruko Sensei, and Lady Inga all attended with us and provided support to the competitions itself, help with the feast preparations and attended us in our duties as Baron and Baroness. We thank all of them for making the day excellent and once again spreading the awesomeness that is Dragon’s Laire to foreign shores.
Many Thanks, Arontius and Laurellen

As usual, Dragon's Laire made a large impact on Ursulmas yesterday. I wanted to send out a message of thanks for all of your efforts to demonstrate Dragon's Laire's commitment to support of our neighbors and Kingdom, as well as the demonstrations of martiallate prowess exhibited throughout the day.
Many thanks to those who acted as personal retinue for me yesterday. Your services and support were invaluable and I wouldn't be able to accomplish nearly as much as I could without you. Thank you Dame Madrun, Tsuruko Sensei and THL Adelheidi.
Many thanks also to all those who willingly and eagerly lent a hand in establishing the Dragon's Laire area in the Ursulmas Hall. In no time at all things were set up and we were all enjoying the day from our home base. Many thanks to M'Lord Josh (whose Myrmidon name I need to remember how to spell correctly :-)). Also many thanks to THL Ermanaric Morgan, THL Nidda, THL Caius, THL Jenae, Don Talentus, THL Conchobar, THL Eilidh, Dame Brighid, Master Cedric, and THL Kassandra.
As with any function in which Dragon's Laire involves itself the food available to the Populace during the day was plentiful and delicious. It was a fantastic idea on the part of His Lordship Ermanaric and was deeply appreciated. Many thanks to all who participated in bringing foodstuff.
I was kept busy in passing out tokens to those competing in the martiallate competitions. I hope that I was able to reach everyone. In the Heavy Combat I knew of THL Conchobar, THL Ermanaric, and M'Lord Josh. In Rapier I noted the competition of Don Talentus and THL Caius. All acquitted themselves well and I heard frequent stories of at least five or more wins in their Erics. Well done to all those who competed. You care the word-fame and honor of the Barony with you, along with your inspirations, into combat and we are in turn honored by your efforts. Thank you.
One note concerning THL Ermanaric. It was part of his Serjeantry Quest to learn the ways of the spear in combat and show its effectiveness and awesomeness. I had Knights seek me out yesterday to relate to me Ermanaric's prowess with the spear, as well as his chivalry and joy in combat. Well done, Ermanaric. We are proud of your efforts. As a member of the Serjeantry, this is what we seek as inspiration to the Populace. Well done!
No martiallate can take place without the efforts of the marshalls who guard the fighters and Populace in combat. I witnessed Master Cedric put many hours of service in this capacity. Thank you for this. I believe that Don Talentus also acted as a Marshal for the Rapier Combat, another act of service well noted. Mistress Althaia once again put in a supreme performance as one of the Marshalls-In-Charge for Ursulmas. Your hard work is always appreciated.
Once again the Rapier Cloak of Championship was on display as Christopher Stanley took part in the Rapier Combat. Thank you Christopher for discharging your services of Champion so well. :-)
Later in the day Lord Myrick arrived to lend his services to the Youth Combat, which were appreciated I'm sure. Before he put in some practice on the archery range. :-) Many thanks, Myrick.
Also on the archery range I saw THL Loric, M'Lord Richard, THL Alaricus and THL Kassandra. All were lending their efforts on behalf of archery. I also heard rumor of THL Eileen and THL Pernell in the area. :-)
Stephen of House Awry was busy with the Thrown Weapons Range. Another Dragon's Laire Champion carrying the word-fame and honor of the Barony around the Kingdom. Thank You!
As has become tradition, a certain household spent many hours at gate helping Aquaterra. :-) Many thanks to M'Lady Diana, Lady Anya and Lord Malcolm. Your dedication and service were appreciated by all.
Their Majesties were in attendance at Ursulmas and Dragon's Laire lent a hand in assisting Them in Their duties during the day. Many thanks to THL Adelheidi, Lady Andromache, Lord Idomenious and Lady Sorcha. I know there were others, but I don't know if I captured them all in name.
I know that THL Jenae was kept busy during the day as well, as well as assisting me with handling evening Court when I could not stay in attendance. Thank you for your willingness to be of help, and for all your usual hard work. :-)
THL Kassandra was rewarded with kind words from Her Grace Angharad and Her Majesty Caoimhe for her gifts; both of largesse and to promote the arts of needlework. She gifted a handful of leather hand-bound notebooks intended for the Gulf War largesse bags as well as several well-made slate needlework frames. Many thanks for your gifts of generosity to the Kingdom.
Kingdom Officers were kept busy as well, as they are at every large event. :-) Many thanks to Dame Brighid (Kingdom Seneschale) and THL Renart (Kingdom Scribe) for all your hard work in support of the Kingdom.
THL Adelheidi and Lady Aileen made the trip through the Marketplace to re-introduce all those present to the wonders that are June Faire, as in the passing out of June Faire Marketplace applications. Many thanks for the promotion of June Faire and being good ambassadors of Dragon's Laire in the process. :-)
Later in the day I managed to be clumsy and ended up injuring myself. I wish to personally thank those who assisted me in many capacities. From those who made sure I had some prompt attention from the Chirurgeonate (thank you Madrun), some ice (thank you, Adelheidi and Tsuruko), to those who swooped in and cheerfully packed and loaded all my stuff for me. Many thanks to Madrun, Tsuruko, Adelheidi, Josh, Talon, Cedric, Brighid and everyone who came to me aid. It may have been personally embarrassing, but was sincerely appreciated!
Many thanks to Cedric and Caius for being so willing to drag home the remainder of stuff left in the Baronial area at the end of the day.
If I am missing names and actions from this missive, please let me know. All acts of combat, service and the arts bring honor and stature to the Barony and should be recognized and praised. Every time I travel outside our borders I'm reminded of how special our home of Dragon's Laire is, how special its people are. Thank you for the pride you bring to the Barony. Thank you for the pride you bring to us as Baron and Baroness of Dragon's Laire. You all honor us personally with all that you do.
Huzzah! Dragon's Laire!!!!

Arqai Ne'urin also provided his talents and services as a Marshall on the Erics at Ursulmas.
Congratulations to THL Caius Foxcotte for winning the Chivalry recognition in the Rapier Competition yesterday. Thank you for the inspiration you provide in being the person who is the example of how to behave on the Tournament grounds.

As per our custom, we’d like to post our list of thank yous, gratitudes and ‘stuff we saw’ at Twelfth Night. But first we’d like to say how incredibly fortunate we feel to be the Baron and Baroness of such a magnificent place as Dragon’s Laire. Dragon’s Laire is a land of amazingingly talented people. A land of hard-working, generous and eagerly helpful people. A land of incredibly creative and intelligent people. Travels to events such as Twelfth Night show us in a myriad of ways the truths of those statements. We always seem to return refreshed and reminded that we live in the greatest lands in all of An Tir. This is not something that just magically happens. It ‘IS’ because of all the hard work of the Populace of Dragon’s Laire. Thank you for making it so easy to look so good! :-)
As posted last night, we wish to congratulate Don Talentus del Albero on his ascension as Kingdom Rapier Champion. He was magnificent in his display of talent in the Erics. The final rounds happened close to midnight last night and even so the entire room was crowded with Populace with their attentions what was happening before them. Don Talon fought the Dragon’s Laire Rapier Champion, Christopher Stanley in a duel of epicness. We from the sidelines enjoyed the competition immensely.
Dragon’s Laire had further reason for pride in that we had three members of our Populace in the Rapier Championship. THL Caius Foxcotte also turned in a fantastic performance. Honour was definitely added to the treasure trove of Dragon’s Laire by the deeds of our Rapier combatants last night.
We do not get tired of reminding all of our Cousin Barons and Baronesses that Dragon’s Laire has THREE KINGDOM CHAMPIONS residing within its borders! :-) Rapier (Don Talon), Bardic (THL Nidda), and A&S (Dame Gwenllyn). We would greatly love to continue having Dragon’s Laire provide Kingdom Champions, no matter the discipline, for the forseable future! :-)
As usual Dragon’s Laire provided a huge amount of service to the Kingdom this weekend. Without the efforts of our Populace the Kingdom would surely suffer a huge loss. Many played parts as members of the Royal Retinue, both of Their Majesties Vik and Astrid and Their Majesties UlfR and Caoimhe. THL Magdalena, THL Albrecht, Don Talentus, HE Jenae, Dame Madrun and HE Cedric were instrumental in assisting Their Majesties Vik and Astrid. Dame Ellen was hard at work supporting Their Majesties UlfR and Caoimhe.
Dame Brighid Ross was everywhere as the Kingdom Seneschale and THL Renart was incredibly busy at his post as Kingdom Scribe. Dame Angharad is working in the Seneschallate Office as the Background Check Deputy. THL Loric was on site as the Kingdom Archery Officer.
As is also tradition, Master Arion provided coinage to Their Majesties UlfR and Caoimhe as head of the Moneyers Guild. His talent is amazing. He was also assisted by THL Albrecht and THL Caius in his efforts.
THL Nidda provided a great deal of fun and entertainment to the weekend as Kingdom Bardic Champion, during Court and her work on ‘An Tir T.V.’ which had a dedicated television channel in the hotel. We enjoyed it immensely.
We wish to thank everyone personally for their efforts on behalf of Her Excellency Laurellen’s Pelican Ceremony. It was such a grand experience! Many thanks to Tsuruko Sensei for providing her services as herald. Many thanks to THL Adelheidi for acting as banner bearer. We certainly appreciated our Baronial Heavy Champion, Lord Idomineous acting in his capacity as our defender, along with his Lady, Sorcha, who provided assistance to the Ceremony itself. Many thanks also to all who walked into Court with us: Dame Gwenllyn, Dame Madrun, Master Cedric, THL Aelianora, and THL Conchobar and THL Eilidh. You helped make the Ceremony one that will be memorable forever.
In addition, we wish to thank those who went to the extra efforts to dress in late period clothing to honour Her Excellency during the Ceremony, include Dame Eleanor who looked magnificent in her Elizabethan garb.
We definitely owe a huge debt of gratitude to all those who assisted in the Vigil and Party. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Many thanks to Lady Inga for organizing the food along with Dame Ellen. Thank you Dame Angharad, Andromache, Dame Madrun, and THL Adelheidi for helping prepare the food, along with Lady Jess Dunn. Many thanks to all of them along with THL Kassandra for cleaning up as well. We enjoyed and appreciated all of your efforts greatly! I know there are people I’m forgetting on this list, but I also know that Her Excellency Laurellen plans her own letter of gratitude to the list with additional thank-yous.
We were also amazed at the amount of food provided. Thank you to all who helped with food additions. Besides Lady Inga, we know that food was also provided by Dame Angharad, Master Cedric and Dame Brighid, THL Karl Van Der Ostwache, THL Mateusz and THL Rycheza, and others whom we don’t even know. Thank you to Dame Gwenllyn for providing a large portion of the decorations for the Vigil and Party. You all helped make the Vigil and Party a very festive occasion!
We were concentrating so much on the Pelican Ceremony for Her Excellency Laurellen that we did not get the chance to wander the event and witness the deeds of the Baronial Populace to the extent we usually do. We hope that if there were members of the Dragon’s Laire Populace working at Twelfth Night who were not recognized by us in this e-mail that someone would let us know so that we can record and recognize their deeds properly. This includes award recipients. We know a large number of people received Forget-Me-Knots and other recognitions from Their Majesties. We know that M’Lady Andromache was recognized in Court for her efforts to recognize those who perform modern military service. We hope to hear more details of these recognitions.
In closing, we are always humbled at the generosity of the Populace of Dragon’s Laire and always proud of their accomplishments and deeds. We thank you sincerely for all that you do as we recognize our incredible luck at living in the greatest branch in all of An Tir, Dragon’s Laire.
Thank you All, Arontius and Laurellen

Our Baroness was elevated to the Order of the Pelican at 12th Night 2013. Brava to Mrq. Laurellen, our beautiful Baroness!
Mrq. Laurellen writes:
Now that I have mostly recovered from 12th Night, I wanted to send out my own personal thanks to the very many people from Dragon's Laire and elsewhere who made 12th Night an incredible experience for me.
I want to specifically thank Dame Madrun, Dame Gwen, and Tsuruko-Sensei as well as HL Aelianora, HL Ataliana (Talia), Lady Inga, Lady Adelheide, and - from far 3M - Hanim Gulenay for the hand they lent to me in helping me make my clothing, lending me stuff, and getting me ready for court Saturday at 12th Night. While I know they will be the first to say that they didn't do much, I would say that they did and that I appreciate them and their gifts of time and talent more than words can convey.
I also want to specifically thank Dame Ellen, Lady Inga, Lady Adelheide, Dame Angharad, Andromache, Dame Madrun and Lady Jess of the Roving Irish for the food planning, prep, and clean-up for both the vigil party Friday and the general Baronial Celebration on Saturday evening. The layout was beautiful, the food was delicious, and yet again Dragon's Laire's reputation for putting on a good party is completely secure. I want to thank Lady Inga, Dame Angharad, Master Cedric and Dame Brighid, THL Karl Van Der Ostwache, THL Mateusz and THL Rycheza, and others whom I am sure I have missed for the donation of various yummy foods. Thank you to Dame Gwen, Lady Ella and I know others who lent items to decorate the room for my vigil. The atmosphere was beautiful.
I want to specifically thank Dame Madrun for being the door/time keeper at my vigil. It's not an easy job to manage and she did so beautifully.
I want to thank Master Ralg, Don Talentus, and Lady Inga as well as many, many others for photographing the event. Given that I have just one fuzzy Polaroid photo from my Laurelling, the plethora of media I have to remember this elevation is an embarrassment of riches. I appreciate all your efforts so very much.
I want to thank HL Renart for my beautiful combined Laurel and Pelican scroll. It's just beautiful and I am so appreciative of his time and talent.
I want to thank my SCA mother, Countess Aryanna, Mistress Sadb, who traveled from Avacal, and Master Cedric for agreeing to speak on my behalf during my Pelican ceremony. Their words meant more to me than I can say.
I want to thank Sir Raoukinn for the absolutely beautiful banner she made for my ceremony, It is a true work of art and I am overwhelmed at her generosity with her time and talent.
I want to thank all the people from the Barony who traveled to 12th Night and who came to chat with me on Friday and witness my elevation on Saturday; HL Matuesz, HL Rycheza, Lord Idominius, Lady Sorcha, HL Conchobar and HL Eilidh Don Talentus and HL Jenae (and Jack!), HL Caius and HL Nidda, HL Loric and Aileen, HL Alaricus and HL Kassandra, and so many others who I know I saw in the whirlwind of the crowds... I know I'm forgetting someone and I apologize... Dragon's Laire was very well represented and my only excuse for forgetting you is that I was very preoccupied!
I want to thank everyone who decided to play along and dress up in late period clothing; there were many, many of you! But I especially wanted to thank Master Cedric and Dame Brighid - if you didn't see them in person, be sure to hunt up the photographic evidence of them in their late period finery. Seriously. Master Cedric wore a ruff! I also wanted to thank Dame Eleanor, Dame Gwen, Dame Madrun, Tsuruko-Sensei, Dame Ellen, Lady Adelheide, and His Excellency for playing along in the late period clothing. Again, if you didn't see them in person, there is photographic evidence that is well worth the viewing. Everyone looked just beautiful. His Excellency looked especially handsome!
His Excellency was the driving force behind the planning and execution of my vigil and elevation. From start to finish, he oversaw all the details. He listened patiently to me, supported my wishes, and made them all happen which left me free to indulge - very selfishly - in making my clothing and not worrying about much else.
And, to be honest, His Excellency has been a driving force in the Barony for decades. He thinks of all the things that we all forget and then he makes them happen.
Where would we all be without our Baron?
Thank you, my love.
I received many well wishes, words of encouragement, and gifts and, while I have thanked those people in person, I wanted to mention it here as well. I am overwhelmed by the support that I received and I thank all of you again for it. Thank you especially for all the email well wishes from those of you who could not attend. It was lovely to know that you were thinking about me.
Lastly, I want to thank the Barony of Dragon's Laire in general simply for being the group of motivated, caring people that it is. In this great Kingdom there are many Baronies, many Shires, many households but none of them hold a candle to Dragon's Laire. I am so very proud to be your Baroness and, frankly, I would not be the person I am today, the Laurel I am, the Pelican I am, were it not for my association and involvement in and with the Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire. Thank-you for being you. Please never stop.
If I have missed anyone, it was not on purpose and I know, the minute I hit the 'send' button on this, I'll remember a name or two... please forgive me. My lapse in memory in no way reflects that I appreciate everyone's efforts and support so very, very much.

Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon’s Laire,
Dragon’s Laire was well represented at Druim Doineann’s Hot Summer Lights this year. We wish to thank our neighbors to the north for hosting such a fine event. All who attended seemed to have a grand time. The site, high in the Olympics, is a favorite of ours and we enjoy returning to it each year.
We want to first off thank those who attended us that day as our retinue: Dame Gwenllyn, THL Madrun and THL Adelheidi. They were incredibly helpful and looked after our every need. We are grateful as always for their help and company. Thank you.
As we arrived on site, the very first person we met was Lady Jess, who was working gate for the event. It is by volunteering that our Society is made as great as it is. Many thanks to everyone from Dragon’s Laire who lent a hand to Druim Doineann to ensure the success of Hot Summer Lights.
We quickly moved over to where the Baronial Pavilion was set up next to the War Field. Many thanks again to Lady Marion and M’Lord Garrett for transporting the Baronial Pavilion and taking care of its set-up and take down.
We first witnessed the Druim Doineann Rapier Championship. Both fighters who competed were from Dragon’s Laire: M’Lord Yo Eh (sp?) and M’Lord Auric (sp?). The victory went to the first who won ten battles. M’Lord Yo Eh emerged as the victor. Congratulations, Yo Eh!
When the Rapier Championship ended, we took the opportunity to explore the event. Over on the Archery Range, we witnessed THL Alaricus, M’Lord Richard and M’Lord Tom (my notes are sketchy here, I may need help on this one) from Dragon’s Laire in the Archery Competition. Master Arion was also shooting but was not officially competing. It was a stiff competition, with another member of the Grey Goose Shaft, THL August (of Madrone I believe) emerging as the Archery Champion of the day. Many thanks to THL Brian of Cardiff for his work at officiating the Archery Tournament.
The Dragon’s Laire encampment itself was rather large. THL Conchobar and THL Eilidh, Lady Marion and M’Lord Garrett, Lord Myrick and Lady Aileen, M’Lady Juniper. Over in the RV encampment were Master Arion and M’Lady Skadi, along with Skadi’s sister; THL Alaricus and THL Kassandra; and THL Pernell and M’Lord Richard.
We then went back to the War Fields to witness the battles of the day. The reasons for the War in the first place revolved around the Barony of Madrone and claims of sheep stealing. But when the forces gathered for the day, no forces from Madrone were present to defend their name, or challenge the claim. However, a representative was indeed sent from the Barony to state that there were indeed misunderstandings abounding and that Madrone was being framed for such a heinous deed. So skillful were the word’s of Madrone’s representative that it was decided that the claim would have to be settled at a later date. So it was further decided that fun was still needed to be had, and battle done. THL Althon and THL Conchobar were named as the two opposing War Leaders of the day. THL Althon led the forces of M’Lord Achmed, M’Lord Gawyn, and the forces of Clan Dragondraughten as the ‘King’s Men’. THL Conchobar led Lord Ajax / Radmund, Lady Duncan of Donuts, M’Lord Blonda of Saint Ulrich’s, M’Lord Yo Eh and THL Caius as the Revolting Peasants. Master Arion, being the only War Archer, was ‘shared’ between the two forces. Under the leadership of THL Conchobar, the peasants won every battle.
The final battle put most of the forces of both armies against the Children of An Tir, who threw rocks and boulders at the combatants. The armies were quickly destroyed four times over, with Her Excellency Laurellen joining the children in the final pitched battle.
Many, many thanks to Lord Myrick, THL Carlos, and M’Lord Arqai for acting as marshalls for the battles.
As the armies dispersed to tend to the wounded, we journeyed to other activities at the event, including the Siege Cooking. Lady Aileen did a great job of orchestrating this activity. We witnessed at least four entries, which were all very tasty. Remarkably well cooked food for being in primitive conditions. Many thanks also to THL Mateusz and THL Rycheza for participating in the judging of the completed food. Hopefully, Lady Aileen will post the winner of this soon. :-)
It was about this time that a brewing competition, or at least tasting, was judged. We witnessed at least three entries. Judges included THL Mateusz, THL Brian of Cardiff and THL Adelheidi. We did not hear the results of that competition either.
We had to leave Druim Doineann at about this time, and so did not get to take part in the Pot Luck, of which we heard was fantastic. Nor did we get to join in on the festivities of THL Conchobar and THL Eilidh’s occasion of their fourteenth wedding anniversary (Congratulations!!!). Which we did regret. But it did seem to us that everyone was having fun on site. Which is always what we hope to be the conclusion of any event.
Please let us know what we missed. And give us the victors of the day we did not get to witness in person.
The final note though is that Dragon’s Laire once again made its presence felt in a mighty way.
Many Thanks to all! Arontius and Laurellen
Baron and Baroness of Dragon’s Laire.

From Lord Arkhai Ne'khurin
The mead tasting was a contest of sorts with three entries from individuals of the same group, whose names were not given to the judges. In addition to the judges listed by His Excellency, Lord Ivan was also to be a judge but was unable to attend at the start due to affairs of state. As I was hanging around curious, I got happily wrangled into being the fourth judge. We got most of the way through the tasting and Lord Ivan, having cleared his schedule, made his way to the table. In the end, it was a close contest between an apple base mead (almost like a cider) and, the eventual winner, a blueberry/pomegranate mead. Many thanks to the entrants and congratulations to the winner!

From Lady Aileen
It was a great weekend! The Siege Cooking ended up having five teams, the Rampant Lions, House Id, the Roving Irishmen, Oz von Bakken, and Captain Ileana.
I choose a period recipe consisting of dried fruits and spices, with pork instead of lamb. They could add ingredients, but they couldn't take any away.
Many thanks to HE Arontius, THL Mateusz, THL Rycheza, m'lady Juniper for helping me judge entries.
In the end it was Oz von Bakken! Thank you to everyone who participated! And thank you to THL Sonja for asking me to run the competition again this year!

Greetings Unto The Mighty Barony of Dragon's Laire!
Whenever we travel the Kingdom we are constantly amazed at the presence of Dragon's Laire everywhere we go, and the extent to which they provide service and talent to every event they attend. We never tire of returning home and telling these tales as they are a source of extreme pride. Whenever we speak to Their Majesties, or others throughout the Kingdom, it is evident that there is a certain amount of awe inspired by our dedication, our hard work and our talents that we willingly give to the benefit of the Kingdom and all within it. You all need to be proud of what you've accomplished. Your hard work is noticed!
If we should have overlooked something or someone in the below, please let us know! It is IMPORTANT to us that all who participate and give of their services and talents be recognized for what they do!
When we arrived to Tojan Park on Friday evening, we are incredibly pleased to see the Baronial Pavilion set up upon the Erics and ready to support the Baronial Populace. We sincerely wish to thank Lord Albrecht, THL Magdalena and their entire crew for making this happen. Thank you very much!
As we traveled the site on Friday evening we were impressed by how many of the Dragon's Laire Populace were providing direct service to Their Royal Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses. This included Dame Brighid, Master Cedric (Captain of the Guard for His Majesty Vik), THL Caius, THL Nidda, THL Magdalena (Head of Retinue for Their Majesties Vik and Astrid), Lord Albrecht, THL Madrun, THL Adelheidi, Don Talentus and THL Jenae (there may have even been others that I'm overlooking, but even so this is an impressive number of people supporting the Crowns of An Tir!). Providing this services requires dedication and a lot of hard work that is often not seen by those of the Populace. We thank you for providing these services as it most certainly spreads the word-fame of the Barony!
As we traveled further into the event we came across THL Renart the Fox, who spent the weekend in service to the Virgin Countess Inn. They provided a large portion of the food for those attending the event. Renart spent many hours during the hottest portions of the day over a very hot oven. Great work was done by Renart this weekend! Not to mention his formally reporting for the first time during Curia on Sunday morning as the Kingdom Scribe. AS WELL AS his work in organizing the scheduling for September Crown and working with Their Majesties to get the schedule set and straight. Thank you very much, Renart!
We sought and found the Dragon's Laire encampment, which was small but still Mighty! :-) Thank you very much Lady Ella (formerly Lady Brenna) for your efforts in ensuring the encampment was set for the Barony. We thank Lord Thangbrand for joining in the encampment. We were indeed sorrowful that we could not camp with the Barony for the weekend.
On Saturday the Barony made its presence known in the Tournaments!!!
In the Squires' Tourney, Lord Diomedes (formerly known as Lord Sorenn) was a Squire for the day to Sir Octamasades. His battles were hard fought and he came home with many scars. But his efforts were fierce and he earned the respect of the Kingdom's best fighters. Well Done, Lord Diomedes!
In the Kingdom Protectors Tournament, THL Alaricus entered. With his considerable talents I'm sure that many felt extremely challenged by his very presence! There were fifteen combatants for the title of Kingdom Protector, which was a great turnout. Good work, Alaricus! We also wish to thank Master Arion for his support in running the competition. This support is what makes these competitions happen and are greatly appreciated by the Kingdom. Thank you, Arion!
The Rapier Tournament was well attended!!! Don Talentus, THL Caius, THL Joest, and Lord Albrecht all represented the Barony well. The field was large, with many, many fighters. But Dragon's Laire made its presence felt.
As has become our Baronial custom, the Arts and Sciences were also well represented by the Barony! THL Kassandra provided lessons in the art of bobbin lace, as well as examples of her extraordinary work. THL Aelianora supported the Embellishers Guild of An Tir in her capacity as Guild Mistress, and she was supported in turn by Her Excellency Laurellen, THL Madrun, and maybe several others (although we do not know who was all was in the support of this by name).
In the area of Family Activities, M’Lady Madeline (daughter of Mistress Angharad and THL Marcus) supported the Kingdom Family Activities Coordinator by donating her time and efforts in a multitude of activities and projects that involved children and their parents. This support is important as it provides a role model to our next generation of the fun that can be found in the SCA. Thank you very much, Madeline!!!
Our Baronial Retinue were all amazingly supportive. We do not know how we'd survive events without their presence. Most profound thanks to Dame Gwenlly, THL Madrun, Tsruko Sensei, and THL Adelheidi for all of their support. It was extremely appreciated.
In supporting the Kingdom in the lands of Administrivia were Dame Brighid Ross as the Kingdom Seneschale, THL Renart the Fox as Kingdom Scribe, Don Talentus as the Kingdom Teamster, Mistress Althaia in her capacity as Marsall on the Tournaments Fields and as Note Scibe to Curia, Mistress Angharad for taking on a position as Kingdom Seneschale Deputy for Background Checks, and THL Jenae in her role of supporting the Kingdom Lists in all Martiallate activities. The efforts of these members of the Populace are important as they keep the Kingdom functioning. Without their support and efforts we would not have a game to play.
A special thank you of gratitude to Dame Ellen Fraser. On behalf of her apprentice THL Elisabeth Fitzwilliam, she presented a bid for KAS / KBC 2013 to the Kingdom Financial Committee that was subsequently accepted. KAS / KBC 2013 will be in the lands of Blatha An Oir next year. Right next door! :-)
We want to thank THL Adelheidi for pulling in all of our gear and organizing it for packing from the Baronial Pavilion. Your efforts made it easy for us to pack for home. We also want to profusely thank those who took down the Baronial Pavilion and returned it to the homelands of Dragon's Laire. A very, very special thank you to THL Magdalena and Lord Albrecht for making this happen. Thank You!
We also want to put out a special thank you to Master Ralg and HE Barnet Acelin for providing assistance in the repair of Master Arion’s steel wagon. Your generosity of time and efforts were appreciated by Arion for sure. We were proud of how the Dragon’s Laire Populace looks out for each other in times of need. Thank you!

The Barony was indeed mighty today in our presence at Honey War in the lands of Glymm Mere! Members of the Baronial Populace took part in practically every competition and venue available on site. What was extraordinary to us was that this was done the weekend after June Faire! Unbelievable!
When we showed up on site we were offered space for the day under shelter provided by Sir Walter Minstead of Glymm Mere, who was placed directly next to the day shade of Myrick and Aileen. Thank you all for your hospitality towards us, we were especially grateful to all who helped move our equipment and materials around site, THL Conchobar, Lord Myrick, THL Brummbar, and THL Richard. We also want to thank Sir Walter for hosting space in which Dragon's Laire and her allies could gather together.
We were immediately whisked off to Court with Their Excellencies of Glymm Mere, Johann and Francisca. We declared our allegiance to Blatha An Oir, through Baron Aleksii and Baroness Elspeth, for purposes of the acquisition of bacon over honey (the maple smoked bacon provided by Baroness Elspeth was quite delicious! :-)). Then it was time to marshal the troops for battle!
The Barony of Dragon's Laire fielded fourteen fighters in the War! Everyone gathered about the Dragon's Laire standard (the silk banner created by HE Alyna Wolfstan) and we formed a company through the efforts of THL Conchobary MacEoin. THL Conchobar provided his services as a herald and started before us. We followed him with Mistress Gwenllyn Potter carrying the banner directly behind us. She was followed by a double column of fighters.
What a glorious sight! Everyone stopped what they were doing as Conchobar proudly announced our passage around the field to Court. Our fighters were strong and proud! Her Excellency's beauty shown and the Dragon's Laire standard flew in the wind. It was the stuff of legends!
In the Baronial War Band were THL Conchobar, THL Richard Dragun (the Baronial Heavy Champion), THL Caius, and Lord Thangbrand. Sir Walter joined in our march. The allies of Dragon's Laire were the Myrmidons, including Idomeneous, Titus and Trent. Also as allies were a company from Clan Dragondraughton, who are regularly seen providing service to us at June Faire. We were grateful to be joined by all these fighters.
Having the Baronial Heavy Champion, the Rapier Champion, and the Archery Champion of Dragon's Laire all present at Honey War were especially appreciated by us.
Master Arion was also present in the heavy scenarios, acting as a member of the Company of St. Ulrich. Even though he joined 'the other side', the fact that he took part also helped carry the wordfame of Dragon's Laire.
Thank you all for taking part. It was noted by many that Dragon's Laire's presence was very much appreciated for adding excitement and energy to the day. THL Conchobar especially was noticed for his leadership upon the field, and leading the troops of Dragon's Laire with efficiency and ingenuity. Great Work, Conchobar!
As the War took place, we ensured that we traveled the site in order to recognize all the others from Dragon's Laire who had taken the time to lend their strength to Honey War. Over on the Archery ranges, we witnessed THL Alaricus, Lord Ehrig, Lady Jess, and M'Lord Gavin shooting. From what I understand, THL Alaricus was turning in fantastic scores. I am confident that he won the archery war point of the day. THL Kassandra provided administrative support to the archers on the range.
Over on the Thrown Weapons range, we witnessed M'Lord Ciroc throwing. He is a natural with axe and blade, but because of the distance he lives from Glymm Mere he chose not to go for the Championship, which we found to be commendable. To prove his support of the War though, he presented to the Barony of Glymm Mere a belt holster for blade and axe to be given to the next Thrown Weapons Champion of Glymm Mere. A very noble deed.
Over in the Arts and Sciences competition, THL Alaricus had a Glastonbury Chair he had constructed on display. It was beautifully made! Several members of Dragon's Laire also supplied entries to the mead competition, including Lord Myrick, Lady Aileen, Lord Mael-Duin and THL Alis.
As has been seen already on the e-list, Team Dragon's Laire won the Siege Cooking competition. The Team made up of Lady Aileen, Lord Myrick, Lady Marion and M'Lady Quincy.
Before we left site, we also took note that THL Caius had changed gear so that he could take part in the Rapier competition, and helping with its set-up and marshalling. Thank you very much Caius for providing this service to Glymm Mere!
It was indeed a wondrous day for Dragon's Laire! Our word-fame continues to shine throughout the Kingdom and our presence sought by all to be allies and friends. This is due to the hard work of the Populace of Dragon's Laire. Be proud. We certainly are!
